fellowship of men...

Self doubt is a merciless monster that gnaw at your mind. Also, it remind you why some people are driven to madness to seek peer approval, scary...

Will power is the greatest power of all, hmm...maybe next to the power of love :)

...what do you think of people who live at their own standard of measurement of achievement? Sure sounds like a neat idea...? To never have to live up to others standard? But is there meaning living on an island of your own standards? and not being able to have a taste of what it's like to bask in others' applause...

It's a known fact that human interaction and emotional connection with fellow human beings contribute to feeling of fulfillment and happiness.

I guess there is no running away from being part of this human circle, society standard thing...is there?

as someone who believes in "living to one's own standards", i do agree with you that human connections like the ones you mentioned are essential towards individual fulfillment and happiness. hence, i also believe that it is not humanly possible to live on your own island, free from all subscriptions, free from from all societal constraints, - a "free-thinker" on a secular level, so to speak. free-thinkers, if we think about it carefully, do subscribe to a certain system. and it is not their own unique system (as much as some may like to believe so). these people do seek approval from somewhere, within and without, just like you and me.

i do believe, however, that the one admirable value some (not all) of these seemingly unconventional people possess is the realization that "my destiny is mine". as such, one has total freedom to make decisions, and along with that freedom, total responsibility for the decisions.

so, a person who, for instance, chooses to live in the limelight of society is fundamentally no different (lesser/superior) than a person who, say, choose to be a recluse. just make sure that it is your own decision. and be happy with it, and bear no grudges in hard times. peace.
